WordPress theme development: Scott Marlow

A new portfolio website for Sheridan + Company. To improve search engine optimization, I imported all of Jason’s Blogger posts into a new SEO-friendly domain, sheridaninteriordesign.com – powered by WordPress. The new site features photo galleries of Sheridan + Company interiors.

Scott is very easy to work with and comes to the table with more than enough ideas. The thing I appreciated the most about Scott is that he never gave up on me, even when I didn’t know exactly what I wanted.  Scott always went the extra mile to make my site sing.  His quick turnaround time and friendly approach are icing on the cake. I will, and already did, recommend Scott.

Walter Sepulveda asked me for help updating the static web site for his Seattle landscape design company, Tierra Landscape.

The new site features an open-source content management system, expanded photo gallery, and a page for Spanish speakers.

Cleaning Up Websites

Some web site maintenance for Bravo Environmental. After inspecting the accessibility and usability of the original site, I located the underlying problem: an over-engineered site for engineers. Al Schumacher swept me into the project.

Site repairs included cleaning up the ASP code, cutting out redundant HTML and vacuuming up 5 nested tables to make content updates easier. Image-based headers were jettisoned to make room for search engine-friendly text-based headers. Web maintenance also involved adding pages to the site map.

You get the idea. Thanks to Beegee Tolpa for the graphic design.

My First Logo

A makeover for Toni Cross’ container gardening website. Toni and I worked together choosing a new, softer palette for her site – while I dug into my first logo design. Technically, it’s a font treatment for her company name, and tagline: beauty in small spaces.

I converted Toni’s nested table-based website to a hybrid CSS-table site last season. In the future, we can use CSS to implement seasonal colors for her site skin too.

Claim Your Blog at Technorati

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Technorati is a blog-specific search engine that indexes 112 million blogs. To add your blog to Technorat:

  1. Create an account at technorati.com
  2. Verify your account by clicking on the link that Technorati emails you
  3. Check your Claim Status
  4. Create a blog post that includes your unique token, like MF2B68NAKRS2
  5. Verify Claim Token at Technorati

Why do you have to add your blog to a search engine? I don’t really know since Google’s blog search already indexes my blog content. In fact, that same content also exists in Google’s regular search index.

And Bing.com? Yeah, they index my blog content too. No registration. No claiming. No verifying.

Container Gardening by Toni Cross

Friday, November 7th, 2008

When her former web designer and host had become non-responsive, Toni contacted me to fix some problems with her website.

I helped her move the website to a new web host, updated the look and feel of the site (with help from Kelly Davis of Farm Girl Works), and implemented Cascading Style Sheets to facilitate future website maintenance.

Take a look at Toni’s container gardening services.

I’d show you before and after screenshots, but the before shots might turn you to stone.

Contact me about your website maintenance.
